How To Make The App Run Smoothly On Older Phones

Storage, background apps, graphics settings, battery modes and network fixes that reduce lag on budget and older Android devices.

Most lag complaints on older phones come from memory pressure or an unstable connection rather than the app itself. Working through the list below in order usually fixes the problem without any guesswork.

Free up storage and memory

Keep at least 2 GB free and close other apps before a session. Photo and video backups running in the background are a common cause of stutter during a match, and they tend to start exactly when you connect to Wi-Fi.

Clearing the app's cache rather than its data is the safe first step when things feel sluggish. Cache rebuilds itself; clearing data signs you out.

Lower the visual settings

If the app offers graphics or animation options, reduce them. Fewer animations means fewer dropped frames on a budget processor, and card games lose nothing important visually.

Turning the device's own animation scale down in developer options helps older hardware across every app, not just this one.

Watch the battery saver

Aggressive battery saving modes throttle the processor and restrict background network use, which shows up as a game that freezes for a second at a time. If lag appears only when the battery is low, that is the cause.

Heat causes the same effect. A phone charging in a warm room while playing will slow itself down deliberately to cool off.

Fix the connection, not the app

Turn-based games are sensitive to latency spikes. Sit closer to the router, avoid crowded public networks, and if mobile data is your only option, check the signal before joining a timed table.

A dropped connection mid-round usually counts as leaving the table, so stability matters more than raw speed here. A steady weak signal beats a fast one that comes and goes.

Keep it updated

Newer builds usually include performance fixes for lower end hardware, so reinstalling the current version is often the quickest improvement available. Restarting the phone once before a longer session is the other free fix nobody bothers with.
